Not all standard products will work effectively on all applications, so please keep this in mind when quoting and/or ordering. We are often asked, "What's more economical, thermal transfer or direct thermal?" Answer: There is no set "rule." It depends upon your specific application, your printer model and your usage. Theoretically, a thermal transfer label + ribbon are usually a bit less expensive than a direct thermal label (no ribbon needed). However, this depends on whether you need a coated direct thermal or an uncoated direct thermal. Also, you must consider the fact that you must stock both labels and ribbons when printing thermal transfer products and you also should consider the time it takes to change ribbons. If you are printing high volumes, you may want to consider printing direct thermal, eliminating the ribbon changes.
